Governor Mutahi Kahiga Defends Support for Ruto, Says Government Is Delivering Development

NAIROBI, Kenya, Apr 2 – Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga has defended his decision to align with President William Ruto, saying he will continue supporting the Head of State because the government is delivering on its promises.

Speaking during the AIPCA Holy Oil Consecration at Mukaro South Diocese in Nyeri County, Kahiga addressed growing criticism over his political realignment, noting his previous close association with opposition leader Rigathi Gachagua.

“To those wondering why I am walking with the President, I have already answered you,” Kahiga said. “I will continue to walk with the President because he is delivering. Are we together?”

He urged residents to allow the government time to implement development projects, warning that constant political distractions could hinder progress.

“At this moment, the government is working and fulfilling its duties,” he said. “What did we elect the government to do? To work.”

Kahiga further added that ongoing political debates and disruptions could slow down service delivery, calling for patience among citizens as development continues.

“Let those who want to oppose continue, but as citizens we should give the government space to deliver for our own benefit,” he stated.

The governor, once considered a strong ally of Rigathi Gachagua and previously critical of President Ruto, also reassured residents that political alignment would not affect development in Nyeri County.

“President William Samoei Ruto is from Uasin Gishu,” he said. “When he goes back home, will he carry our hospital or projects? No.”

His remarks were well received by the audience, as he emphasized that development projects belong to the people and will remain in the county regardless of political affiliations.
