Yemen’s Houthi movement has claimed responsibility for targeting a Royal Saudi Air Force Eurofighter Typhoon fighter jet with a surface-to-air missile over Saada Governorate in northern Yemen late on October 14.
According to Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree, the fighter jet had taken off from Taif Air Base in western Saudi Arabia before being intercepted in the skies above Saada.
Saree claimed that the missile scored a direct hit on the aircraft, potentially leaving it in danger of crashing. However, the group has not provided independently verified evidence confirming whether the fighter jet was destroyed.
The latest announcement adds to a series of claims by the Houthis targeting Saudi military aircraft amid renewed tensions between the two sides. In September, the group also claimed to have shot down a Saudi F-15 fighter jet over Yemen’s Marib Governorate.
Despite the latest allegations, the fate of the Eurofighter Typhoon remains unconfirmed. No independently verified wreckage or conclusive evidence has emerged to establish that the aircraft crashed, and Saudi authorities have yet to issue an official response to the claim.
The reported incident comes amid continuing hostilities along the Saudi-Yemeni frontier, with tensions remaining high as the Houthis continue issuing threats and claims of attacks against Saudi targets.
The situation remains developing, and the Houthi claim has not been independently verified.
