Drama as Young Girl Refuses to Leave President Ruto, Clings to Him as Mother Watches

A brief but emotional moment involving President William Ruto and a young girl has set social media abuzz after the child refused to return to her mother following an interaction with the Head of State.

The girl, estimated to be about seven years old, was captured on video crying and clinging tightly to President Ruto, repeatedly insisting that she did not want to leave him. Witnesses said she held onto the President and moved around him as security officers and onlookers watched in surprise.

Despite her mother’s efforts to persuade her to leave, the child remained defiant, saying she wanted to stay with the President because she felt happy and safe in his presence.

The unexpected turn of events briefly left security personnel uncertain about how to handle the situation, prompting them to proceed cautiously.

The video has sparked mixed reactions online. While many Kenyans found the incident humorous, joking that the young girl appeared more attached to the President than to her own parent, others raised concerns about boundaries and parental authority. Some questioned whether such situations should be handled more firmly to avoid confusion.

Security officers were seen speaking calmly to the child, avoiding any form of force. President Ruto also appeared relaxed, gently talking to the girl and reassuring her as they tried to calm her down.

After several minutes, the mother eventually managed to take her daughter back. Speaking afterward, she said she understood that her child enjoys attention but emphasised that children must be taught to respect boundaries.

She expressed hope that similar situations in future would be handled without distress.
The clip has since gone viral, drawing widespread commentary on children’s unpredictable behaviour.

Many viewers noted that young children can act impulsively, especially in exciting environments, and require patience from adults.

Although the girl safely returned home, the unusual encounter continues to trend online, with many Kenyans amused by what they describe as yet another reminder of how spontaneous and strong-willed children can be.
