Campaign Truck Linking Joho to Ruto Sparks Debate Over Deputy President Slot

A campaign truck bearing branding linking Cabinet Secretary Ali Hassan Joho with President William Ruto has stirred political debate ahead of the 2027 General Election.

The imagery, widely shared on social media, has fueled speculation about possible changes to the running mate slot and signaled early maneuvering in pre-election negotiations.

The truck’s appearance has drawn attention as it suggests some political actors may be considering alternatives to the current Deputy President, Professor Kithure Kindiki.

Observers note that such moves could be testing public reaction and gauging support for new configurations within the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

Leaders from the Mt Kenya region aligned with UDA have responded firmly, insisting that the Deputy President position must remain with Kindiki.

They argue that the office is central to the region’s continued support for President Ruto and forms part of the political agreement that brought the current administration to power. Any shift at this stage is seen as unnecessary and potentially destabilizing.

UDA politicians from Mt Kenya further emphasize that early speculation about senior political roles diverts attention from key priorities such as development, economic growth, and effective service delivery.

They maintain that the current political arrangement does not require changes to the Deputy President role before 2032, reinforcing their position that Kindiki should continue in office.

Meanwhile, political observers and citizens are closely watching developments as pre-election campaigns intensify, waiting to see whether the speculation will translate into actual political moves.
