Top Kenya Kwanza leaders on Saturday intensified campaigns in Isiolo South as they urged voters to back the UDA candidate ahead of the February 26 parliamentary by-election.
The campaign trail was led by Isiolo Governor Abdi Guyo and President William Ruto’s close aide Farouk Kibet, who held rallies in Kinna and Garbatulla wards.
The leaders called on residents to unite behind Mohamed Tubi, the son of the late MP Mohamed Tubi, who passed away in November.
Addressing supporters, the leaders said Mohamed Tubi understands the development needs of Isiolo South and is well positioned to complete his late father’s agenda. They urged voters to prioritize continuity and stability during the mini-polls.
During the rallies, UDA leaders sharply criticized the opposition, accusing them of spreading misinformation, promoting division, and opposing government development programmes.
Farouk Kibet told residents that aligning with the government would guarantee progress, warning against what he termed fear-mongering tactics by rival camps.
He defended flagship projects under President Ruto’s administration, including infrastructure development and the affordable housing programme, saying these initiatives were transforming lives across the region.
Farouk also dismissed opposition claims, accusing them of misleading residents on issues such as national identity card issuance and service delivery.
Governor Guyo reaffirmed that Isiolo remains a stronghold of UDA, expressing confidence that the ruling party would emerge victorious in the by-election.
He praised the Kenya Kwanza administration for opening up the county through roads, housing projects, and improved access to public services.
The governor also cited appointments of Isiolo residents to senior government positions as a sign of inclusive leadership, noting that the region was now enjoying fair representation at the national level.
Isiolo Woman Representative Mumina Bonaya said the community had unanimously agreed to back Mohamed Tubi after consultations involving elders, women, youth, and local leaders.
She called on residents to turn out in large numbers on polling day to honour the late MP’s legacy.
After the political rallies, the leaders attended a fundraising event at Algani Girls High School, where Sh10 million was raised to improve learning facilities.
Additional pledges included the purchase of a school bus and the provision of a power generator to support the institution.
Several regional leaders attended the events, reinforcing UDA’s push to consolidate support in Isiolo South ahead of the closely watched by-election.
