Millicent Omanga Dumps UDA, Joins United Opposition Ahead of 2027 Nairobi Woman Rep Race

Former Nominated Senator and businesswoman Millicent Omanga has officially severed ties with the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and declared her allegiance to the emerging United Opposition bloc.

Once a staunch supporter of President William Ruto during the 2022 General Election, Omanga has now positioned herself firmly on the opposition side, even as she refrained from announcing the specific party she will run on in 2027.

Instead, she openly endorsed key opposition heavyweights, including Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua, Jubilee Party figure Fred Matiang’i, and Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, signalling a major political shift.

Omanga also confirmed that she will contest the Nairobi County Woman Representative seat in the 2027 General Election, a race she narrowly lost in 2022.

Speaking to supporters, she expressed gratitude to the Mt Kenya community, noting that their backing in the last election motivated her to make another attempt.

“I want to thank the Mt Kenya community because you gave me over 600,000 votes in Nairobi in 2022. I narrowly lost, but in 2027 I will be back on the ballot,” Omanga said.

She expressed confidence that growing unity among opposition leaders and communities would significantly improve her chances in the upcoming election, pointing to what she described as renewed political cohesion across regions.

“This time, all cousins will be together. It won’t be just 600,000 votes. Fred Matiang’i has united the Gusii community, and he is coming together with Mt Kenya. From Eastern, Kalonzo has also united his people,” she said.

Omanga also criticised the current political leadership, urging voters to accept financial handouts while remaining politically independent.

“If someone gives you money, take it. That is your money anyway, your taxes. MPs have camped at State House receiving handouts, and I speak from knowledge,” she claimed.

The remarks were made on February 7, 2026, in Gatundu South, where she was introduced by Rigathi Gachagua during a traditional dowry ceremony.

A day earlier, Omanga had publicly confirmed her 2027 bid, saying the decision followed consultations with supporters across Nairobi.

Omanga now joins a crowded contest to replace incumbent Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris, who has announced she will not seek re-election.

Other potential aspirants include Nominated Senators Karen Nyamu, Tabitha Mutinda, Crystal Asige, activist Hanifa Adan, and social media personality Maverick Aoko.
