Linda Mwananchi Website Temporarily Taken Offline After Cyber Attacks

The newly launched Linda Mwananchi has been temporarily pulled down following a series of malicious cyber attacks, Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna confirmed on Saturday, March 14, 2026.

The platform, which went live on March 13, 2026, quickly attracted thousands of sign-ups. However, Sifuna revealed that the website experienced numerous attacks, forcing the team to take it offline to address technical and security challenges.

“What a start! Lindamwananchi.com went live yesterday, and thousands of you signed up. That's the energy we need. On behalf of the entire team, thank you so much,” Sifuna posted.

He added, “Expectedly, there were thousands of malicious attacks on the website as well as hundreds of positive feedback on how we can improve. We have taken the site offline to address the issues and incorporate your ideas.”

Concerns about data privacy emerged after screenshots circulated online showing personal details of registered users, including names, phone numbers, and email addresses. Many questioned whether the platform had sufficient safeguards to protect user information.

The Linda Mwananchi initiative had been viewed as a tool for mobilizing citizens around governance and accountability issues.

Sifuna, along with other key figures including Babu Owino and James Orengo, have used the platform to oppose the broad-based arrangement, accusing rival factions of betraying the legacy of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

The website is expected to relaunch once the technical and security issues have been resolved, with the team promising to incorporate user feedback and strengthen data protection measures.
