ODM Parliamentary Group Endorses Oburu Oginga as Party Leader, Backs Talks With UDA Ahead of 2027

Members of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Parliamentary Group have officially endorsed Dr. Oburu Oginga as the party leader and approved structured negotiations with the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ahead of the 2027 General Election. The decisions were made during a joint Parliamentary Group meeting held on March 3, 2026.

According to a press statement, MPs received briefings on recent party activities, reviewed upcoming programmes, and discussed anticipated legislative and political issues.

After “frank deliberations,” members upheld all recent resolutions passed by the party’s Central Committee and National Executive Committee (NEC), including Oburu’s installation as Party Leader.

The group also endorsed the ongoing ODM-UDA collaboration and supported a mandate to engage in coalition negotiations ahead of the 2027 polls.

MPs agreed to explore compensation for victims of past election-related human rights abuses, emphasizing urgency and alternative mechanisms for resolution.

Additionally, the Parliamentary Group approved the party’s withdrawal from the Azimio coalition and backed the NEC’s plan to convene a National Delegates Convention on March 27, 2027.

As a next step, ODM MPs will hold a joint session with UDA lawmakers to review the implementation of a ten-point agenda between the two parties.

The meeting also tasked the Party Leader with internal preparations for the coalition talks, including determining representation and modalities for negotiations.

The statement was signed by National Assembly Minority Leader Junet Mohamed and Senate Minority Leader Stewart Madzayo.
