SHA Urges Employees to Confirm Remittance of Monthly Health Deductions

Nairobi, Kenya – The Social Health Authority (SHA) has asked employees across the country to verify that their monthly health insurance deductions are being remitted by their employers.

In a notice issued on Thursday, March 12, the authority reminded employers that they are legally required to deduct and submit employee contributions on time to ensure workers continue accessing healthcare services under the scheme.

According to SHA, employers must remit the deductions on or before the ninth day of the month following salary payments.

“SHA reminds all employers of their legal obligation to deduct and remit employee contributions on or before the 9th day of the following month to ensure continued access to services,” the Authority stated.

Employees Asked to Monitor Contributions
The authority also encouraged workers to regularly check their contribution status to confirm that deductions appearing on their payslips have actually been received and recorded in the system.

Employees can confirm their records through several channels, including the Afyayangu online portal, the Afyayangu mobile application, or by dialing *147# on their phones.

Additionally, workers can seek assistance through the official SHA eligibility email if they encounter difficulties accessing their records.

Report Unremitted Contributions

SHA warned that failure by employers to remit deductions on time could affect employees’ access to healthcare services.

Workers have therefore been advised to immediately report any cases where deductions are not remitted or reflected in their statements so that the authority can follow up with the respective employers.

The notice forms part of ongoing efforts by the government to strengthen compliance with the country’s health insurance system and ensure employees receive uninterrupted medical coverage.
