Shauri Moyo Estate to Be Renamed in Honour of Late MP Johana Ng’eno, President Ruto Directs

Nairobi, 6 March 2026 – One of Nairobi’s oldest estates, Shauri Moyo, is set to be renamed in honour of the late Emurua Dikirr MP Johana Ng'eno, following a directive from President William Ruto.

Speaking during the burial of the late MP on Friday, March 6, President Ruto announced that the move recognises Ng’eno’s pivotal role in championing the city’s affordable housing initiative.

“Because Johana Ng’eno was the chairman who ensured that we succeeded in the housing project, we have recommended that one of the biggest estates in Nairobi, called Shauri Moyo, be named Johana Ng’eno Boma Yangu Estate,” the President said.

Ruto directed the Ministry of Lands and Housing, led by Cabinet Secretary Alice Wahome, to immediately initiate the renaming process.

“Therefore, I am directing the Ministry of Housing to rename Shauri Moyo to Johana Ng’eno Estate in the city of Nairobi,” he stated.

If implemented, the name ‘Johana Ng’eno Boma Yangu Estate’ will serve as a lasting tribute to the late legislator’s leadership in the housing sector and highlight the government’s broader push to improve access to affordable homes for Kenyans.

“Respect is due for the work he did, in which he presided over the construction of affordable houses. The Honourable Ng’eno exercised his leadership role as the housing chairman,” the President reiterated.

Located on the Eastlands side of Nairobi, just three kilometres from the Central Business District (CBD), Shauri Moyo has long been recognised as a historic residential neighbourhood.

Ng’eno tragically passed away on Saturday, February 28, 2026, alongside five others when their helicopter crashed and burst into flames in the Chepkieb area of Mosop, Nandi County.

Reports indicate the aircraft struck a tree shortly after taking off at around 4 pm, following a brief weather-related delay due to heavy rainfall.

The 54-year-old MP was a seasoned politician who served Emurua Dikirr residents for three consecutive terms, leaving behind a legacy of bold leadership and community development. He was laid to rest on Friday, March 6, 2026.
