Winnie Odinga Joins ODM Faction Meeting, Fuels Questions About Political Position

Winnie Odinga attended an important Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) delegates meeting in Nairobi associated with the Oburu Oginga-led faction, prompting debate over her political alignment amid ongoing party divisions.

The meeting was held on Tuesday, March 17, at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Foundation offices in Upper Hill. Delegates from all seventeen Nairobi constituencies participated in the strategy session ahead of the Special National Delegates Conference scheduled for March 27.

During the session, Nairobi ODM chairman George Aladwa introduced Winnie, highlighting her leadership potential and noting her significance in the party’s future direction.

Discussions focused on strengthening party unity, mobilisation strategies, and preparations for the upcoming political season.

Winnie’s attendance drew attention because of her recent appearances with another ODM faction led by Secretary General Edwin Sifuna.

She was also seen with Embakasi East MP Babu Owino at events critical of certain party decisions and its cooperation with the government.

Observers are now speculating whether Winnie is repositioning herself politically. Some suggest she may be seeking to bridge divisions between rival factions, while others see her as positioning herself as a unifying figure in the party once led by her father, Raila Odinga.

ODM has seen growing tensions in recent months, with factions holding separate meetings and accusing each other of betrayal.

With the national conference approaching, Winnie’s involvement has intensified interest in her political direction, leaving many eager to see whether she will side with one faction or remain neutral.
