Court Orders Bloggers to Apologise to MP Nabii Nabwera Over Posts Linking Him to Principal’s Death

The Milimani Chief Magistrates Court has directed three Kakamega-based bloggers to publicly apologise to Lugari Member of Parliament Nabii Nabwera for publishing social media posts that linked him to the death and disappearance of Munyuki High School Principal, Simon Isiaho Shange.

The order, issued on Wednesday, November 12, is an interim ruling in a Ksh60 million defamation suit filed by the MP through lawyer Danstan Omari.

According to court documents, the bloggers had published what the court described as “malicious, false, and unqualified statements” on Facebook — falsely alleging that Nabwera was connected to the mysterious death of the school principal.

Court’s Directive

The court, certifying the matter as urgent, instructed the three bloggers to issue an unconditional apology and retract all defamatory posts pending the hearing and determination of the full case.

Nabwera’s legal team told the court that the social media publications had severely damaged the MP’s reputation, incited public anger, and even prompted threats against his home in Lugari.

“The falsehoods have endangered my family and caused irreparable harm to my standing as a member of the National Assembly,” Nabwera stated in his affidavit.

Ksh60 Million Defamation Claim

The legislator is seeking Ksh60 million in damages, demanding Ksh20 million from each blogger for publishing and spreading the false claims.

Before filing the case, Nabwera’s lawyer had written to the bloggers, demanding they delete the posts, apologise, and offer compensation. However, they reportedly failed to comply — prompting the legal action.

The posts, which appeared across several Facebook pages, carried sensational headlines such as “Vanished After Defying the MP” and “MP Nabwera, Come Clean on the Death of This Teacher.”

Principal’s Death

The controversy arose after the body of Principal Simon Isiaho Shange was discovered on Saturday, November 8, in the Kipkaren River, five days after he went missing on Monday, November 3.

Reports indicated that the body showed signs of torture and mutilation, with some parts missing. His damaged vehicle had been found earlier near the area, leading to speculation about the cause of death.

The incident sparked outrage among residents, many of whom suspected foul play. However, Nabwera dismissed the allegations as “false, malicious, and politically motivated,” describing the deceased as a personal friend and respected educationist.
