Police Allegedly Directed to Arrest Edwin Sifuna Before IEBC Nomination, Reason Revealed

A report circulating on social media has claimed that police officers across the country have allegedly been directed to move swiftly and arrest Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna before he submits his documents for the IEBC nomination ahead of the 2027 General Election.

According to the unverified report, the alleged arrest would be linked to remarks attributed to Sifuna during opposition political rallies, with claims that authorities are concerned about statements allegedly amounting to hate speech or dangerous remarks.

The report has continued to attract attention on social media, with Kenyans reacting differently to the allegations and questioning whether the claims are genuine.

Sifuna has in recent months become increasingly active in preparations for the 2027 General Election. He has publicly discussed his political ambitions and has been associated with the Linda Mwananchi movement, with reports indicating that he is working on a political vehicle through which he could pursue his presidential ambitions.

Recent reporting, however, has not independently confirmed that police have been instructed to arrest Sifuna before his IEBC nomination. The alleged arrest directive therefore remains a claim circulating on social media rather than an established fact.

The claims come at a time when Sifuna has continued making strong political statements during rallies and public engagements. He has also recently called on the IEBC to take action over remarks made by UDA Secretary-General Hassan Omar concerning the use of deceased voters' fingerprints in the 2027 election.

As the 2027 political activities intensify, the alleged arrest report is likely to continue generating debate among Kenyans, particularly over the circumstances under which a political leader could face arrest before seeking clearance to participate in an election.
