A newly released video capturing the aftermath of the tragic road accident that claimed former Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo has gone viral on social media. The footage, recorded at night, shows Jirongo trapped inside his badly mangled Mercedes just minutes after the collision.
In the video, Jirongo lies motionless across the middle of the car, appearing unconscious and severely injured. He is seen wearing a blue shirt and bright trousers, while the vehicle itself is almost completely destroyed, illustrating the severity of the crash.
Several young men who arrived at the scene can be heard panicking as they attempt to remove the driver’s seat to pull him out. One asks, “Hawezi toka?” (Can he be removed?), while another responds that Jirongo is stuck under the wreckage and cannot be freed easily.
Reports suggest the video may have been taken by a passenger on the Climax Coach bus involved in the collision, though this has not been officially confirmed. The footage has sparked widespread shock and sadness among Kenyans online, coming shortly after police confirmed there was no foul play in Jirongo’s death.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Jirongo died in the early hours of December 13, 2025, when his Mercedes collided head-on with a Climax Coach bus along the Nairobi–Nakuru Highway near Karai.
CCTV footage from a nearby petrol station shows Jirongo stopping briefly at the station around 2:18 a.m. without refueling, before turning back towards Nairobi. Seconds later, the bus struck his car directly, pushing it approximately 25 meters from the point of impact.
A post-mortem report confirmed that Jirongo died from multiple severe injuries, including broken ribs, heart damage, and spinal injuries. Police questioned his wife, the bus driver, passengers, and others who were with him that night. While questions arose about why he strayed from his usual route, no criminal activity was found.
Following the investigation, the case was forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP). Jirongo was laid to rest privately at his Lumakanda home after a week of mourning.
