Governor Irungu Kang’ata on Month-Long Leave After Heel Injury; Deputy to Step In

Murang’a Governor Irungu Kang'ata will step back from physical office engagements for about a month following a heel tendon injury sustained during a meeting in Nairobi.

The injury occurred on Wednesday when Kang’ata tripped while attending a Nutrition International meeting that brought together stakeholders to discuss maternal and child nutrition programs supported by the Canadian government-funded organization.

Medical Assessment and Recovery

After a medical assessment, doctors advised the governor to avoid physically demanding activities for approximately one month to allow for full recovery. During this period, Deputy Governor Stephen Munania will represent him at official events requiring the governor’s presence.

In addition, the County Executive Committee Member for Finance, Prof. Kiarie, will handle designated assignments as directed. Kang’ata will remain actively involved in overseeing county affairs remotely through online platforms. Official virtual meetings are scheduled to continue from Monday.

Continuity of County Programs

The Murang’a County Government assured residents that service delivery and leadership functions will continue uninterrupted. Ongoing initiatives, particularly in nutrition and public health, will proceed as planned during the governor’s recovery.

The county expressed gratitude for residents’ support and prayers and wished the governor a speedy recovery. Kang’ata, who has maintained a busy public schedule since taking office, is expected to resume full duties after the one-month recovery period, subject to medical clearance.
