KeNHA Announces Major Nationwide Road Maintenance Programme

The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has unveiled a nationwide road maintenance programme set for the third quarter of the 2025/2026 financial year.

The initiative aims to improve road safety, enhance mobility, and preserve key transport routes critical for trade and regional connectivity.

Scope of the Programme

Funded through the Road Maintenance Levy Fund, the works will include:

Performance-based maintenance

Routine maintenance

Spot improvements

Over 100 road sections across Kenya will benefit, including roads in Rift Valley, Nairobi, Nyanza, Western, Central, Eastern, Coast, North Eastern, and Upper Eastern regions.

Key Roads Targeted in Nairobi

At least six major roads in Nairobi and surrounding areas have been earmarked for upgrades:

Nairobi Southern Bypass

Kikuyu-Ndenderu-Ruaka Road

Kiambu-Raini-Ndenderu Road

Njabini-Gatakaini-Thika Section

Isinya-Konza Junction

Athi River-Kyumvi Road

The works will focus on pavement repairs, drainage improvements, signage, and other safety-related upgrades, aiming to reduce congestion and improve driving conditions.

Implementation & Contractor Selection

Contractors will be selected through an open and competitive tendering process.

Pre-tender site visits are scheduled for early March.

Motorists are advised to anticipate temporary traffic disruptions, particularly on busy urban highways and bypasses.

KeNHA emphasizes that the programme is part of its ongoing effort to maintain Kenya’s critical transport infrastructure and ensure safer, smoother travel for commuters and commercial transport alike.
