United Opposition Leaders to Tour Matiang’i’s Home Region in Gusii

Former Interior Cabinet Secretary and presidential hopeful Fred Matiang'i will lead a three-day tour of his home region in Gusii, targeting Nyamira and Kisii counties next week.

The tour is set to kick off on Monday, February 23, 2026, in Nyamira, before moving to Kisii on February 24 and 25 for rallies and public engagements.

Matiang’i will be accompanied by fellow opposition leaders, including:

Former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua

Former Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa

DP leader Justin Muturi

Martha Karua of the PLP

Local leaders including Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka and Nyamira Senator Okong’o Omogeni confirmed the itinerary, noting that final adjustments are ongoing.

The rallies will include stops in key towns and wards such as Ekerenyo, Nyamira town, Marani, Nyanturago, Suneka, Nyamarambe, Ogembo, Nyamache, and Kenyenya.

The tour serves as Matiang’i’s homecoming, allowing the opposition candidate to consolidate support from his community and build momentum for a potential joint ticket against President William Ruto in the 2027 general elections.

The events also aim to rally voter enthusiasm and reaffirm backing from local MPs and senators allied to Matiang’i.

Residents are urged to maintain peace during the campaign events, while the opposition team aims to gauge genuine local support and strengthen their political footprint in the region.
