Questions have emerged on social media after an unverified statement attributed to Kakamega Senator Boni Khalalwe claimed that, before every election, someone close to him or someone he knows normally ends up losing their life.
According to the post circulating on social media on Wednesday night, Khalalwe allegedly claimed that he has noticed a worrying pattern surrounding elections, with people close to him reportedly dying before major electoral contests.
The unverified statement further alleged that powerful forces had been sent against his family members and friends, supposedly by his political opponents, in an attempt to frustrate his political ambitions and prevent him from winning an elective seat in Kakamega.
In the statement attributed to Khalalwe, he allegedly claimed that the people who eventually lose their lives are usually those who are close to him or his friends.
The senator was further quoted as saying that, this time around, he would pray to God to protect everyone around him from what he described as the alleged schemes of his opponents.
The claims have since attracted attention online, with some social media users questioning the allegations and others calling for caution until the authenticity of the statement is established.
At the time of writing, the claims remain unverified, and there is no independent evidence presented in the circulating post to substantiate the allegations concerning the deaths or the alleged involvement of political opponents.
